I’m a physicist, but we’ve been all over the place from space and now I’m working on a computer program that calculates the length of a year on Jupiter. I’m a good writer but I’m also a science geek. When I look on the page, I see the light on Jupiter, the light on our planet, and the light on our moon.
The length of a year on Jupiter is one of those really big numbers that seems to be beyond our understanding of it. It is not a matter of degrees. Jupiter has an absolute size of about one to two billionth the size of our sun and its gravity is one-third that of the sun. It’s like that for everything.

Then it is a number that represents its own number of years. The Sun would be just a point in space and that is the first point in our universe. The Sun would be around 100 million years old and the Moon would be about a billion years old.
We also learned today that the earth is made up of billions of different layers. The crust, mantle, core, and the outer and innermost layers. That made me wonder if it is possible to tell the age of a planet by looking at the layers. I was wrong.
