The City of Austin is considering moving the first annual Center for Neighborhood Innovation (CNI) event — the annual downtown “vacancy” that brings together a number of community partners and entrepreneurs to solve problems and make things better. This year, the event will be held in the new City Hall at 7th and Walnut streets.
With a great deal of work and consideration, CNI has decided to move the 2016 event to the new City Hall at 7th and Walnut streets. The new City Hall has a lot going on in it, including a new stage for the CNI kickoff, two new restrooms, more lighting, a new public meeting area, and better signage. The CNI event also has a new website, a new social media presence, and an all-star lineup of speakers. The new City Hall has the potential to be one of the more impactful events of the year.

The City of Chicago is working on its own version of what the CNI is looking to make happen for this event. Although the city is in the process of building out a new public space, the new City Hall building has a lot of the same elements that are featured in the CNI site, including large public bathrooms, new restrooms, more lighting, and a new public meeting area.
The CNI has even more in store for the 2017 event. Chicago’s Mayor Tanya Bennett announced the city’s plans to host an event in the city’s new City Hall. The first thing they want to do is build a new public restroom facility, which they’re planning to do in a massive warehouse in the basement. The building is also being upgraded with new lighting and bathrooms.
At this year’s CNI event, the Chicagos City Council will discuss and vote on the site of the City Hall office, including the proposal to relocate it to the citys new City Hall. The CNI is encouraging the Chicagos City Council to consider this proposal before they vote on the CNI site.
The council will vote on the proposal during their regular meeting on March 18, 2016. They will only have a few minutes to do so, so they are going to need to hear the proposal, which is going to be presented by the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works. The department is recommending that the site of the proposed City Hall office be relocated to the City Hall site in the basement of the Metropolitan Center.
