I always wanted to be a comedian. I used to play guitar and do standup comedy in the Midwest. I found I had a lot of energy to burn and did standup comedy in a very low-paying job. I was pretty burned out on standup. Then I moved to LA, took acting classes, and got a job at a comedy club. I was pretty much told by my coworkers that I couldn’t get a comedy gig.
I have a funny face. I also like to think I’m sarcastic. There’s just no way in hell that I could ever be considered a comedian. I’m not even a complete idiot. And since everyone knows that I’m sarcastic, I get treated like a douchebag by the comedian community. I used to write comedy material for comedy clubs, and I would get my material published in the paper. That was in the mid-90s.
I just got my comedy club gig in the same building as my old comedy club. No luck though, my comedy club is currently down for a serious renovation. Which should be finished soon. This is why I cant get a comedy gig. I dont know how I could possibly get a comedy gig. My friend who is in comedy, we always laughed together. But I dont even know how to get a comedy gig.
I believe being funny is a major part of the value of comedy. As an example, try not to imitate an older, more established comedian. If you try, you will end up copying and pasting what they do, and not being yourself. You can’t be yourself if you’re copying someone else’s act. You have to be your own person.
I think it sounds like you’re trying to be funny in the wrong way. I think if you try to be funny, you’ll end up making you a terrible comedian. You’ll end up being a parody. You’ll end up copying and pasting what the other person is saying, and not being yourself. You cant be yourself if you’re copying someone elses act. You have to be your own person.
